Where,What, Why

Welcome to my 2 year quest to visit 100 lakes on Vancouver Island. In a series of initial blog entries I will give brief explanations of where I plan to go, what the project will involve, and why I want to do it. After that I will post a variety of thoughts on solo paddling, camping, nature, etc.

During the two years I will also publish articles relating to my trips and in the end one or two books about my experiences. This blog will serve as a way to update anyone interested in my progress, and allow others to comment on my journey.

I hope you will feel welcome to suggest lakes I should visit, correct any errors you see, and offer your own perceptions through the comment feature or by sending me a private e-mail at quietlake at stillinthestream.com.

Thanks,

Richard

  1. I am very happy that you have sent me this link! It will be neat to see the 100 lakes you'll be visiting. Are they going to all be lakes from the island? Already I am getting the urge to come and explore.

  3. Hi Brittney,

Hey, I think you should follow that urge. I was just out this weekend and "discovered" an amazing little lake called Moran Swamp. I will be posting pictures and a TR soon. There are so many lakes on the Island, it will be tough to cap it at 100!

  7. Very nice read, I was hoping to paddle too but Larry Bowers took our money for a canoe to be built and never delivered or repay us so we took him to court to bad when he does what he says it looks like he does good work for paddlers, You have inspired us we will have a reputable person build us a canoe thank you for the insperation.

  8. Hi Brenda,

I have now visited over 100 lakes, and paddled a little over 60 of them. There are still a lot more I want to visit, and so I think I am going to "paddle" 100 in the next year, maybe a little longer. At that rate, I will probably end up visiting 130 or so.

Regarding trip tips, etc. I have sent a separate e-mail.

  9. Jack,

Thanks! glad to hear you are not giving up on paddling. Sounds like you are keen on a wood and canvas canoe.

There are two other BC canoe builders, though I have not heard of their reputation. One is in Kamloops and the other is in Grand Forks. I can find their names if you are interested. I'm pretty sure the one in Grand Forks has a nice website.
